Badalona has its own calendar of festivals, and some of its traditions are among the most striking in the Barcelona area. Whether you live here or are just visiting, these are the dates you should make a note of.<\/p>\n
The May Festivals<\/strong> are Badalona\u2019s main festival and are held in May in honour of St Anastasi<\/strong>, the city\u2019s patron saint, a Roman soldier who, according to tradition, was martyred in Badalona in the 4th century. For several weeks, there are concerts, activities for all ages, giant figures, castells and correfocs in the city centre and along the seafront promenade.<\/p>\n The most eagerly awaited moment of the festivities is the Dimoni Cremation<\/strong>. On the evening of 10 May, a large demon \u2013 with a new design each year \u2013 is erected on the beach and burnt amidst fireworks in front of thousands of people. It symbolises burning away evil and making a fresh start.<\/p>\n The evening usually kicks off with the Ball of the League<\/strong>, the \u2018dance of the eagle\u2019, which winds its way through the streets until it reaches the Rambla area, by the sea. Then come the fireworks and the \u2018cremada\u2019. If you\u2019re interested in the history of the festival, there\u2019s an exhibition of images of the demons from previous years at Badalona Pompeu Fabra metro station.<\/p>\n Tips for your visit:<\/strong><\/p>\n At parties, it\u2019s common to see lots of people out on the streets, but remember that using cannabis in public places is punishable by fines. If you\u2019re a member of a club, the place to do so is inside the premises.
