Things to do in Badalona: a guide to a day out

Green Palace, weed club and the cannabis association in Badalona

Badalona is right next to Barcelona, but it has a pace all of its own: a long, less crowded beach, an old town with Roman ruins and a neighbourhood atmosphere that many visitors don’t expect. If you come to explore Green Palace Or if you simply want to get away from the centre of Barcelona, this guide will help you plan a full day out.

How to get to Badalona from Barcelona

It’s easy to get there and you don’t need a car:

  • Metro Line 2 (lilac): It connects Barcelona with Badalona without the need to change trains, from stops such as Sagrada Família or Passeig de Gràcia. The final stop is Badalona Pompeu Fabra, right in the centre.
  • Rodalies R1 train: It departs from central stations such as Plaça de Catalunya and Arc de Triomf and stops at Badalona station, just a short walk from the beach.
  • Bus: Several metro lines run between Barcelona and Badalona throughout the day, and the Nitbus network operates at night.

Tomorrow: the Pont del Petroli and the beach

The city’s most recognisable landmark is the Pont del Petroli, a former industrial quay that juts out into the sea and is now a promenade offering views across the entire coastline. At the end of the jetty, you’ll find the statue of the monkey from ‘Anís del Mono’, the liqueur that used to be produced in Badalona and which forms part of the town’s identity.

From there, you can explore the promenade, with several kilometres of beach. Outside the peak season, it’s a lovely spot for a peaceful stroll, and in summer it offers a welcome alternative to Barcelona’s busier beaches.

Midday: Dalt la Vila and Roman Badalona

Badalona was the Roman town of Baetulo. In the upper quarter, known as Dalt la Vila, narrow streets, the Church of Santa Maria and remains from that period have been preserved. The Badalona Museum It allows you to visit the thermal baths and part of the Roman urban layout lying beneath the present-day ground. It’s a short visit and highly recommended if you’re interested in history.

Afternoon: parks and viewpoints

  • Can Solei and Ca l’Arnús Park: a romantic-style park with a pond, bridges and greenery, ideal for taking a break.
  • Monastery of Sant Jeroni de la Murtra: a 15th-century monastery in the Serralada de Marina, surrounded by nature. According to tradition, it was here that the Catholic Monarchs received Christopher Columbus on his return from his first voyage.
  • Serralada de Marina: If you enjoy walking, its footpaths offer views over Badalona, Barcelona and the sea.

When to go: the May festivals
