One of the most common questions asked by people joining a club in Badalona is what there is to do outside the club. The short answer: The use of cannabis on the street, on the beach or in any public place is a criminal offence throughout Spain, also in Badalona. We’ll explain why and how to avoid problems.
Consuming alcohol in public places is a serious offence
Organic Law 4/2015 on the protection of public safety classifies the use or possession of drugs, including cannabis, in public places, on public roads, in public premises or on public transport as a serious offence, even if they are not intended for trafficking. Fines for serious offences range from 601 to 30,000 euros.
This includes the street, parks, the beach, the seafront promenade, bus stops and public transport. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a small amount or for personal use.
And carry it around with you?
Possession on public roads may also be punishable under the same law, even if there is no intention to consume it at that moment. That is why cannabis associations insist that cannabis should be consumed within the club and not taken out onto the street.
Cannabis and driving
Driving whilst under the influence of drugs is a traffic offence punishable by a fine of 1,000 euros and the deduction of 6 points from your driving licence, and may constitute a criminal offence if it impairs your driving. Saliva tests can detect THC for hours after consumption. If you’re planning to visit the club, your best option is to use public transport or walk.
Why is it allowed to be consumed in a club?
Cannabis clubs are private venues, reserved for adult members who are already users. Shared consumption in a private, enclosed setting is what distinguishes the club from the street. That is why in Green Palace Only members aged 18 or over are permitted entry, and drinks must always be consumed on the premises.
Practical tips
- Please consume only within the club.
- Do not take cannabis out of the premises or carry it with you on the street or on the beach.
